Cheryl Williamson

Cheryl Williamson is a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University and then obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1991. She graduated 5th in her law school class, Magna Cum Laude. She was selected for the Valparaiso University Law Review and her law review article was published in 1991.

For approximately six years she served as the Magistrate Judge for Lake Circuit Court, Family Division. She was appointed to the Protection Order Committee of the Indiana Judicial Center for three years. She has been a guest speaker at numerous continuing legal education seminars. In addition, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Valparaiso University Law School for five years.

Prior to her term as Magistrate, Attorney Williamson served as an associate attorney, and then partner, in a Merrillville, Indiana law firm for approximately 15 years. She practiced in general civil litigation and family law. She served as Mental Health Attorney for the Lake Circuit Court representing individuals subjected to involuntary committment proceedings. She was twice awarded honors by the First Judicial District's Pro Bono Commission for her outstanding services.

Since joining Rhame and Elwood, she concentrates her practice in the areas of family law mediation, family law litigation and general civil litigation. She is a Certified Family Law Mediator She is a founding member of the Women Lawyer's Association and a current member of Porter County Inns of Court and the Lake County Bar Association.
